Lichgates (Grimoire Saga #1)
”This would make a great movie. A great TV show. Great anything. I mean, Boyce sells it at the concept, but she doesn’t stop there. She delivers.”
–Rebecca Hamilton, author of the Forever Girl series
“Boyce’s storytelling is so rich and deftly executed that I found myself bouncing between pure amazement, unadulterated enjoyment, and absolute, perverse envy. She is that good.”
–Thomas Winship, author of the Vaempires series.
More Praise for Lichgates
“The writing is flawless. The kingdoms and surrounding landscapes breathtaking. The Grimoire is a piece of imaginative genius that bedazzles from the moment Kara falls into the land of Ourea.”
–Nikki Jefford, author of the Spellbound Trilogy
“This story is rare, and I found myself feeling blessed to have gotten to read it. I truly believe it will be considered a ‘Classic’ in years to come … To know there are writers out there still capable of producing such legends simply makes me believe in the magic that books fundamentally are. ”
–Jessica Fortunato, author of the Sin Collector series
The Grimoire Saga has the potential to be a cult classic the likes of the Lord of the Rings.
—The Eternal Scribe Book Review
Lichgates is on my top five favorite books I have read this year and possibly in recent years. I keep reading great books so this list should be extended to at least ten. I loved the story, I loved the setting, I loved everything about this book.
—Robert Zimmermann, author of From Where I Stand
This is an epic start to an incredible new fantasy Saga, and one of the most unique fantasy worlds I have seen for a very long time.
—Graeme Ing, author of Ocean of Dust
Wow, the world building on this one was breathtaking. The world of Ourea is just full of so many things.
Boyce has a way of lacing words together in an intricate pattern that I have never seen before. She describes parts of the story in such detail that you can’t help but immerse yourself in the book.
—Tess Watson, of My Pathway to Books
The fantasy elements are truly fantastical, wondrous, and an exciting blend of the whimsical and the dark. I was also pleasantly surprised with the humor within this book and how much I actually laughed…Boyce proves to be a wonderful new voice in fantasy.
—Aeicha, of Word Spelunking
From beautifully crafted descriptions and exposition to action packed thrills, it’s all there: fight scenes that work, magic, shape shifting creatures, time-shifts and a cast of likable good guys offset by terrifying opponents.
—Richard Weatherly, author of Closed Doors
Wow. Adventure, intrigue, and a little bit of romance: this story has it all, and this is just the beginning. This Saga has the beginnings of an epic.
—Noree Cosper, author of A Prescription for Delirium
Boyce weaves a world of adventure and magic that is interspersed with real world concepts… I was blown away when I started reading this book and at every turn was drawn more and more into Ourea and its people.
—D. Ann, of Overflowing Bookshelves Reviews
Boyce does such a wonderful job at creating [her] world that at times, I forgot it wasn’t real.
Do yourself a favor and buy this book.
—J. Scott Sharp, author of Not Even There
The world-building, visuals, and descriptions are so precised that I found myself over and over again getting lost within a scene. I find myself paying more attention to the mental images than the plot. It’s truly beautiful writing. The dialogue is crisp, sounds authentic, and felt so damn perfect. If this book were made into an RPG, I would never leave. Not only is this a book I would recommend reading, I recommend REREADING it.
There was so much that I absolutely adored about this book.
I started reading this book slowly, so I could enjoy it longer. But today I started reading it and totally lost myself in it. Before I could stop myself, I finished Lichgates and 3 hours passed just like that. I feel like I woke up from a dream.
—Tanychy, with Ja citam, a ti?
This is an imaginative story that I think would make an incredible movie. I was hooked from start to finish!
Pick up a copy of Lichgates and clear your calendar because you won’t want to put it down. Lovely author, great plot, realistic characters, unique world—YA high fantasy is back, my friends, with a book and a bang.
Caution: you will not be able to put this book down! I would recommend Lichgates to all fantasy fans, young and old alike.
—Heather Sutherlin, author of Light in the Darkness
I fell in love with this book quickly. Boyce definitely keeps me wanting to know more about this book, and she did a wonderful job of creating a new world—a world full of strange beings that I quickly fell in love with.
—Emerald Barnes, author of Piercing Through the Darkness
The world building is fantastic.
—Rosemarie Herbert of The Cosy Dragon

Kara, a college student still reeling from her mother’s recent death, has no idea the hidden world of Ourea even exists until a freak storm traps her in a sunken library. With no way out, she opens an ancient book of magic called the Grimoire and unwittingly becomes its master, which means Kara now wields the cursed book’s untamed power. Discovered by Ourea’s royalty, she becomes an unwilling pawn in a generations-old conflict—a war intensified by her arrival. In this world of chilling creatures and betrayal, Kara shouldn’t trust anyone… but she’s being hunted and can’t survive on her own. She drops her guard when Braeden, a native soldier with a dark secret, vows to keep her safe. And though she doesn’t know it, her growing attraction to him may just be her undoing.
For twelve years, Braeden Drakonin has lived a lie. The Grimoire is his one chance at redemption, and it lands in his lap when Kara Magari comes into his life. Though he begins to care for this human girl, there is something he wants more. He wants the Grimoire.
Welcome to Ourea, where only the cunning survive.
